Home Stretch Dog Haven, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, was born from a profound understanding of the emotional depth of dogs and the immense suffering they endure when left homeless or subjected to abuse, neglect, and trauma. Recognizing their innate need for love and stability, we are dedicated to offering comprehensive rehabilitation services within a nurturing home environment. My partner and I came across this rescue page on the internet. We quickly inquired about Bud, golden doodle and got a fast response from the owner. We made plans and traveled to NY on a Friday night, met the lovely family Saturday morning and had the best experience ever. She welcomes you into her home and does a thorough interview to make sure her babies are going to a safe home. I love that because the first rescue we worked with, wasn’t involved as much and just dumped a puppy on us. We felt comfortable during the whole process. We also brought our two year old dog, Arlo to make sure he was going to be ok and the woman allowed us four to bond for a good 20 minutes before we agreed to adopt. I would definitely recommend this rescue, she truly cares about her animals and it shows! Thanks for allowing us into your home and giving us a lifetime of puppy kisses.

Within minutes Gretchen called me back and by the afternoon I had adopted my sweet boy. Gretchen was so helpful, understanding and flexible. Her home rescue setting was warm, loving and clean. We adopted Schwarz 10/6/2023. He was a 19 week old breeder dump. I was looking for a Bernese or Bernese mix. His litter came up in my petfinder search and I submitted an application before I realized he was 800+ miles away. We talked and decided to meet one of the pups via video call. I fell in love (of course). The only caveat was I had to get him by the next day. So, after work I headed up to get him. 12 hours later I was in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was very timid at first, but time and patience have worked wonders. We're working to become a therapy dog, which will take another year or so.

We adopted a puppy in the summer of 2023. They were extremely professional, and their documentation was very organized. They were very serious about making sure that the puppies were ending up in appropriate homes. The puppies were given lots of personal attention. The only warning I would give to future visitors is that adoption day is first-come first-served, and that you might be surprised by how many other adopters have their eyes on the same dog when a bunch of them become available. 5 out of 5.👍
